Suspect called Phoenix shooting spree 'recreational violence'

Officials have released a document that reveals the psyche of the two men arrested in connection with six killings and the shootings of 18 people in the Phoenix area.

The probable cause statements for 33-year-old Dale Hausner and 30-year-old Samuel Dieteman say Dieteman referred to the shootings as "R-V." That stands for "random recreational violence."

The report says while officers were watching the two, one of them threw a black plastic trash bag into a community dumpster.

Inside the bag was a map with red and blue dots.

The report says the dots represented attack locations.

Police also gathered a 4-10 shotgun, shotgun shells, an America's Most Wanted video tape and news clippings about the killings.

In the report, the method of operation is described as a stealth attack. The two would drive past a transient-like person and shoot them.

The report also shows the two took turns between driving and shooting.

During an interview, police say the report shows Dieteman admitting to several shootings.

The report also shows that a concerned citizen came forth with Dieteman's name as a possible culprit in the shootings.
