Dan Korem
Biographical Data

Dan Korem is a critically acclaimed author, documentary producer, and independent investigative journalist whose programs have been seen by more than 150 million people worldwide.  A much sought-after speaker for corporate, law enforcement and education groups in North America and Europe, he is the president of Korem & Associates (K&A), which has trained more than 25,000 professionals on-the-spot behavioral profiling skills—more than any other organization in the world.

Obtained first filmed confession of a suicidal cult leader
In 1981, as an independent investigative journalist, Dan produced the documentary Psychic Confession, the first “confession” of a suicidal cult-like leader—three years after the Jonestown massacre.  The Los Angeles Times wrote: “It’s an altogether fascinating study that transcends the somewhat exploitive subject matter.”

Predicted suburban gang trend
From this case, he noticed a pattern and predicted the appearance of gangs in suburbs and small towns for the first time in history.  This led to seven years of research in 11 countries and his landmark book, Suburban Gang—The Affluent Rebels, that shifted the paradigm of what caused gang formation. He also identified the Missing Protector Strategy that stops gang formation.

First on-the-spot comprehensive behavioral profiling system
In the late 1980s, the presidents of a number of major companies asked him if he could develop an on-the-spot profiling system for negotiations that could be used cross-culturally without stereotyping.  Several years of research ensued and the Korem Profiling System was developed.  Initially, it was taught to thousands of corporate professionals for productivity applications.  But, a new and unprecedented threat redirected his research.

Predicted Random Actor trends
In the early 1990s, his profiling, gang, at-risk youth, and aberrant group research converged and enabled him to predict another important trend.  He predicted that student-led terrorist bombings and shootings would occur in North American schools (like the Columbine massacre) and that these students had the same profile as most suicide terrorists, random workplace killers, postal shooters and serial killers.  The profile was the RANDOM ACTOR profile identified in the Korem Profiling System in 1992.  This research has been used in military, law enforcement and education venues to thwart catastrophic acts.  More importantly, an intervention was identified, that when applied, deters a RANDOM ACTOR’S rage and desire to kill.

Dan’s most recent books include: The Art of Profiling—Reading People Right the First Time (1997), Suburban Gangs—The Affluent Rebels (1995), and Streetwise Parents, Foolproof Kids, 2nd ed. (fall 2006).  He has been a keynote speaker or distinguished lecturer for:
